Grandma!

Grandma Lil and Grandpa Frank came to visit, we didn't tell Jason that they were coming just so we could get this reaction from him. Grandma and Grandpa were waiting for him as he got off the school bus and here is his reaction. I think in this case a picture really does speak a thousand words. He was thrilled to see his grandparents when he got off the bus. We were thrilled that we got such fun pictures. We are having so much fun with our visitors.

Kindergarten

Jason stared kindergarten today! He was very calm and happy this morning. I am glad he had pre-k last year, so he's better prepared this year. He was happy that he was wearing his shirt like Daddy today! Good Luck today Jase, I know you'll do awesome! My day so far has not been that different. We'll see if 3 o-clock comes too soon or not soon enough!

Olypmic Fever!

We've been suffering from Olympic fever! Sadly the fever only lasts 2 weeks. We have had such a fun time watching the Olympics and cheering on team USA. We also caught Phelps Fever, we were so happy to see him win those 8 golds! We'll be talking about that for awhile! Matt and I are already discussing our trip to London in 2012!

Our friend Yi brought the Beijing mascots back for the boys when he visited China. They will be a fun reminder for some truly fun Olympics!

Cakes, Cakes and Cakes

Friday, I was busy making cakes for my little buddy Ethan's Second birthday. Elmo turned out cute, and despite my extreme desire to star tip the whole thing, I do think the rough edges were more realistic. The bunt cake was glazed with white and milk chocolate and the sheet cake had really great chocolate frosting (even my dad would be proud!)
But who really cares what they look like... it's cake, you're supposed to eat them! And they really did get eaten. It's a good thing I made 3 cakes!

Rice Architecture

I was looking through some pictures that I need to organize (Sorry Matt, I'm not actually organizing them now). I really liked this picture that we took at Rice, so I thought I would post it. If you haven't ever seen the buildings are Rice you really are missing out, they are beautiful. The Physics building is on of the oldest on Campus and it's gorgeous! This picture is not the physics building but still beautiful architecture. The Small version really doesn't do the picture justice, but my kids are still cute!

Getting Old?

I was just thinking about how quickly kids grow!

Rebecca: Book Review

Book Review: Rebecca - I give it **** 1/2 Spiders (some call them stars, whatever!)

I just finished Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, we were reading it for book club this month. I am not sure who recommended it, but I am so glad that they did. Rebecca took me by surprise, I don't know what I was expecting, but I really liked it and it kept me guessing the whole time. I stayed up way too late night before last, just because I couldn't put it down. I am so glad for some really fun books that turned me on to literature, both classic and contemporary. As I am sure my mother could tell you, I used to hate reading, but now It's truly one of my favorite things. I am always afraid to recommend books, because, well everybody likes different things, but if you want an interesting read pick up Rebecca. If you have read it, I am interested in what you thought of it, put your ideas in the comments.

P.S. I love YouTube! When I was finished with Rebecca, I watched the whole 1940 version of Rebecca on youtube. I wouldn't recommend the movie... unless you like old Hitchcock films, it's very dated and although it's a very close representation to the book there is one or two major changes that irritated me.
I think I'm done with my rambling. Have a great weekend.

Finished Quilt

I finished the quilt for my friend Jackie, she will be hanging it in her baby's room. I just love the fabric she picked and I think it's so cute that she has done her baby girl's room in black and white. I hope she likes it!

I did a double 9 pattern and free motion quilted it. The stripes were... a fun twist, because they are not forgiving! I think more people should quilt in black and white, it has a really cool effect.

Ummm is this still good?

On Friday, I was up in the attic looking for something, and I ran across a box that said "Matt's toys". I figured that the boys would enjoying playing with Matt's old transformers and some of his "old school" Star Wars figures. We had so much fun going through the box and discovering all sorts of fun toys. I have always loved Cringer/Battle Cat but I never asked for one because it was a Heman toy and I was a girl (girls don't play with Heman stuff)! I was so excited about finally getting a Battle Cat! Matt also had the Dino-Bots which are also mine now! Well, In the box of toys we found this certificate for a free sundae at McDonald's.... Check out the date on it "valid November 1st through December 31st 1987" Yep, it's 21 years old! I got a kick out of the length of time my husband will hold on to a useless piece of paper... the funny thing is, how could I possibly throw it away now!
But thanks to Matt, Ian loves Megatron (because he's a gun) and Jason has gone to bed with Luke and "Old" obi-one for the past two nights, and I have toys that I couldn't have as a little girl!

Abstract Art?

Jason made this "silly house" and I thought it was really a lovley piece of art. Who knew how artistic he could be.

Kindness?

Sunday School is a special time where young children learn about the important points of the gospel. Today I picked Jason up from his class, and he handed me the picture he drew. The lesson was "I can be kind to others." I didn't pay much attention to the drawing till I was in the car. Oh! So this is how he thinks being kind to others is... that explains a lot! Notice some key points to the picture, thy triumphant face of the sword wielding villain, the tears of the unsuspecting victim, and the scream of terror "no" from the terrified onlooker. You may also notice the blood dripping from the wound and on the severed limb! Hmm, my first thought... "Your honor, I would like to add this picture to the evidence, as exhibit A."
It made me laugh, and a little worried... anyway, I'm back online now, if you missed me while I was on my "book" vacation. Have a nice week, and remember, be kind to others!
