"Friendly" Lizards

I took these pictures yesterday. Originally I noticed just one lizard sitting on my outside bench, but it had too many legs, so I went around to look at it from a different angle and well, I noticed two lizards. Now, I know what's going on, but I thought it was so cute that the bigger one had his arm around the little one. I guess I feel a little bad that I was taking pictures of them while they were *cough* busy.

When we lived in Houston, we called those guys chameleons. I did an online search and learned that chameleons are a special type of lizard, and one characteristic is their toes. So, I zoomed in on your photo to see what I could see, and I sort of felt like your father-in-law who tells a great story about examining a letter on a bed (in a photo) without realizing for quite some time what else was happening on the bed. I decided this determination is best left to the queen of spiders and lizards -- which would be you. Or, maybe you have already done that, which is why you called them lizards.

Julie:
These types of lizards are anoles... a friend of my had them as pets... anyway, this is from wikipedia.
Polychrotidae is a family of lizards commonly known as Anoles (pronounced /əˈnoʊliːz/). Some authorities (such as NCBI [1]) place the anoles in subfamily Polychrotinae of the family Iguanidae. Four genera are common: Anolis, Norops, Phenacosaurus and Polychrus.

Anole lizards are frequently and incorrectly called chameleons or geckos, although they are not closely related to either of those groups. In fact, they are more closely related to iguanas. These misconceptions are likely due to their ability to alter their skin color and run up walls, respectively.

Oh and while I was looking that info on Wiki, there were some pictures of anoles mating and they didn't have their arms around eachother like mine did!

Clearly, since your Anoles had their arms around each other they are deeply in love. I'm always impressed at your photography Terri - you are truly talented!
