I have always been afraid to let the boys play with the spiders. I was so worried that they would hurt my little ones... (boys hurting the spiders not the other way around) Today I wanted to give it a try. Both Ian and Jason were so gentle and interested in Lucy. It was precious. Jason really wanted to hold Lucy, and he told me she was "so sweet". I know that I am a bit of a spider freak, but I was just thrilled that they seemed to enjoy her as much as I do.

That is awesome for you and your boys! How long have you had Lucy??
P.S. I still hate spiders...sorry.
I got lucy on my 15th birthday. So only about 5 years... Just kidding. I have had her for 13 years.
P.S. Spiders love you!
Wow, that is so awesome. They are both enthralled and genuinely interested. Lucy has gotten HUGE! Do you ever take Shelob out? Is she the same temperment as Lucy?
P.S. For the record, spiders creep me out, especially big "hairy" ones. I'm with you, Sally.
it just shows that kids are influence by us, what little kid would pick up a huge spider? one who has a a spider loving momma
Very Cool. As long as the spider is not dangerous ie black widow or Shelob (from Cirith Ungol) I'm down with the spider. FYI did you know Shelob is old english for Female Spider?
I still think of you guys whenever I see a big spider like that! It amazes me that it doesn't freak you out!! I bet your boys think it's pretty cool, though. What a fun mom :o)
Those pictures are great! I'm totally impressed with how gentle the boys appeared to be. I might be a little freaked out if there's a picture of Danny with the spider on your blog tomorrow though. He probably would hurt them!
For Em, and anyone else who cares... In Elvish the word Ungol is spider, so the place 'Cirith Ungol' means pass of the spider. Shelob is the last child of Ungoliant (the great dark spider or dark terror spider) She gave birth to the other lesser great spiders like the ones bilbo came across in the Hobbit. Thanks Honey for your extensive knowledge of Silmarillian!
I showed the pictures to Sam. He could not wrap his mind around the fact that was a real spider. Foreign world in our house. We generally scream and run at even the smallest of creatures. Sam recently has gotten brave enough to pick up ants.
